Anterior THR Doesn't Need Laser?

Updated at August 7th, 2025

Anterior THR and Laser Therapy

While anterior total hip replacement is often well tolerated, no surgery is completely free of post-op challenges. MLS laser therapy is a powerful treatment to address pain, inflammation, nerve irritation, and delayed mobility. How specifically does OrthoLazer deliver on the promise of faster recovery post operatively?

Simply put post operative laser therapy helps to avoid the cascade of motion avoidance → stiffness → prolonged recovery.

  • Reduction of Anterior Soft Tissue Inflammation and Pain
Despite being muscle-sparing, the anterior approach still involves retraction of the hip soft tissue.
  • Treatment of Iliopsoas Tendonitis or Hip Flexor Irritation
Proximity of the surgical field to the iliopsoas can result in hip flexor pain.
  • Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve (LFCN) Irritation
Support faster nerve recovery from LFCN irritation.
  • Delayed Functional Recovery
Especially older adults or those with poor pre-op conditioning. Capsular tightness will impact gait mechanics.
  • Over Reliance on Pain Medications
Despite the advantages of the anterior approach, some patients still experience discomfort that leads to continued opioid or NSAID use, with associated risks.
